Description

Junior Mechanical Development Engineer

Are you an ambitious Mechanical Engineering graduate or early-career engineer looking to take the next step in your career? We’re working with a highly respected engineering business that specialises in the design and manufacture of special purpose equipment for highly regulated market sectors.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Junior Mechanical Development Engineer to join their Development team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Junior Mechanical Development Engineer to be involved in the full product lifecycle—designing, developing and testing bespoke equipment used in demanding, high-specification environments.

The Role

As a Junior Mechanical Development Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of new and existing products, helping to expand the company’s offering and respond to evolving customer and regulatory requirements.

Working from detailed project specifications, you will:

  • Develop concepts and produce design solutions for new and modified equipment
  • Create detailed engineering drawings for manufacture (in-house and subcontract)
  • Support the build, assembly and testing of prototypes
  • Carry out calculations, simulations and physical testing to validate designs
  • Produce clear technical reports documenting performance and outcomes

You’ll work closely with multiple departments including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales and Quality, as well as external suppliers and testing facilities. There may also be occasional site visits to support product application and validation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret project specifications and contribute to design decisions
  • Produce accurate CAD models and engineering drawings
  • Support prototype build, testing and performance evaluation
  • Collaborate with suppliers on component selection and development
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and customers when required
  • Maintain high quality standards in line with ISO 9000 procedures

About You

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • Experience using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor or similar)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an innovative mindset
  • Comfortable balancing both practical, hands-on work and office-based design
  • Able to communicate technical information clearly across all levels
  • A proactive team player who can also work independently

What’s on Offer

This Junior Mechanical Development Engineer role offers:

  • Fantastic company benefits
  • Exposure to full product development lifecycle within highly regulated industries
  • Hands-on engineering experience alongside experienced professionals
  • A collaborative and forward-thinking environment
  • Opportunities for ongoing training and career progression

If you’re a Junior Mechanical Development Engineer looking to build a career within a technically challenging and highly regulated environment, this could be an excellent next step.
